Why the A/C matters most in the rain
Most drivers think of the A/C as a hot-weather system, so it is the one thing nobody checks before the monsoon. It is also the only thing that clears a windscreen fogged from the inside, the A/C dehumidifies the air, and the demister blows that dried air at the glass. A car with weak cooling and a blocked cabin filter will fog up in heavy rain and stay fogged.
A blocked evaporator drain is the other monsoon classic: water that cannot escape ends up in the passenger footwell, and the damp carpet is usually blamed on a door seal for months before anyone checks the drain.
The monsoon list
Wipers and washers
Blade condition, smearing, washer spray and fluid level. The cheapest safety item on the car and the most ignored.
Tyres
Tread depth, pressure and visible damage. Worn tread is what turns standing water into a skid.
Brakes
Visual inspection, pad condition and fluid level. Wet roads lengthen every stop.
Lights and horn
Headlamps, tail lamps, brake lights, indicators and hazards. Being seen matters more than seeing.
Battery and charging
Resting and cranking voltage, terminals, alternator output. Wipers, lights and blower all running at once is the heaviest load of the year.
A/C, demister and drain
Cooling performance, cabin filter, blower on all speeds and a clear evaporator drain.

If the car is also due its service, the general service is quoted in writing after the checkup, because scope depends on the car and the oil it takes. Wipers, tyres, brake parts and anything else the inspection turns up are quoted separately and only done once you approve.

We test before we quote
The free 30-point A/C and electrical checkup runs first, about 15 minutes, with a written report of what was measured.
You get the estimate in writing
The report says what was found. Gas filling, like everything else, is quoted in writing after the checkup, and nothing starts until you approve it.
No work starts until you approve
Nothing is opened up or replaced before you say yes to the estimate. If the diagnosis changes the scope, you hear about it first.
Repaired, then checked again
The approved work is done and the car is checked again before handover.
Frequently asked questions
When should I get a monsoon car checkup in Chennai?
Before the rain starts rather than after. Chennai gets the north-east monsoon from around October, so September and early October are the sensible window. Booking early also matters because free checkup slots are limited each day and demand rises sharply once the rain arrives.
Why does my windscreen fog up in the rain?
Warm damp air inside the cabin meets cold glass. The A/C is what fixes it, because it dries the air before the demister blows it at the windscreen. If your A/C cools weakly or the cabin filter is blocked, the glass will fog and stay fogged. This is why the A/C is part of a monsoon check and not just a summer concern.
There is water in my passenger footwell after heavy rain. What is it?
Most often a blocked evaporator drain, not a leaking door seal. The A/C produces condensation that normally drains out under the car. When the drain blocks, that water backs up into the footwell. It is checked as part of the 30-point inspection.
Is the monsoon checkup free?
The 30-point A/C and electrical inspection is free and standalone, with a written report and no obligation to repair. Replacement parts such as wipers, tyres or brake pads, and any repair work, are quoted separately and only carried out after you approve the estimate.
