How cold should your car A/C blow?
Move the slider and watch the number at the centre vent climb from cold to warm. It is the first thing we measure on a car that is not cooling, and the starting point for finding out why.

This is an illustration. The readout follows the slider and is not measured from any car. The model is an unbadged coupe generated from a reference image. Your own vent temperature is measured at the centre vent during the checkup.
What the vent temperature tells us
Vent temperature is a symptom, not a diagnosis. It tells us how far off the system is; pressures, a leak check and the electrical tests tell us why.
Cold at the vent
With the system working well, the engine warm, the fan on a middle speed and recirculation on, the air at the centre vent typically settles somewhere around 4 to 10°C. The exact figure moves with the weather and the car.
Cool, but not cold
A reading in the teens has several possible causes: low refrigerant from a leak, a condenser with blocked fins, a weak cooling fan, a clogged cabin filter or a blend door letting warm air mix in. The number alone does not say which.
Warm air
Air near cabin temperature usually means the compressor is not running or the refrigerant has leaked out. We find the reason and show it to you before any repair is approved.
